I interviewed Cesar, who is someone I know that lives and breathes Anime. Cesar has been watching anime since he was younger and has fully immersed himself in the Otaku community. His office at work is completely decorated with anime memorabilia, which shows how deeply fandom runs in his daily life. But what makes Cesar stand out isn’t just his collection but his enthusiasm for what Doki Doki represents.
Interview Questions:
1. What was your very first anime, and how did it change your view of storytelling? Dragon Ball Z was the first anime I watched but at the time I didn’t even realize it was an anime, I just knew I loved it. Watching Dragon Ball Z opened me up to fantasy and inspired me to make stories with my friends. It made me more creative and hooked me into that world instantly.
2. What does the Phrase “Doki Doki” (heartbeat or feeling of a pounding heart) mean to you personally when you experience a new series?
3. What do you like most about anime? Excitement for what's new. I know most people like art and animation which is beautiful, but what I like is the really good storylines that they have. If the story isn’t there, then it doesn’t stick out to me.
4. If Doki Doki could have one exclusive feature, what would you want it to be? If it had access to watching anime and had like a catalog of all the different types organized by genre. This would make it easier to have it all in one place
5. What makes a digital space feel like a “safe clubhouse” to you rather than just another forum? When people in the community are respectful and understand guidelines. A community should feel like a family, not a place to be bullied and disrespected.
6. Do you prefer retro or current anime, and why? It might be because I grew up in that time, but the 1990’s anime felt like it was more personal and had more passion. I still like the new anime but if I had to choose it would be the older ones.
7. What is your most prized anime possession? My most prized possession is my anime hoodies. When I’m not at work, that is all I wear. They show what I like and are so comfortable. I couldn’t live without them.
8. What’s the last anime you watched that was surprisingly good? I know this is an older anime but I had heard a lot about it and had been meaning to watch it but I always forgot and finally I binged the entire series and it was so good i regretted taking so long to finally watch it. It was Attack on Titians.
